The Honda Ridgeline returned to the brand’s lineup of vehicles for the 2017 model year, and it has been turning heads ever since. As a strong member of the midsize pickup truck segment, it has plenty of competitors, like the recently returned Ford Ranger. For the 2021 model year, we thought we’d see how these two pickups measure up to one another by pitting them against each other in a side-by-side comparison.

2021 Ford Ranger
|280 hp||Horsepower||270 hp|
|21 mpg*||Combined Fuel Efficiency||22 mpg|
|1,583 lbs.||Max Payload||1,860 lbs.|
|109.7 cu. ft.||Passenger Volume||97.6 cu. ft.|
As you can tell from the table above, these two midsize pickup trucks are quite comparable to one another, but each one has its clear advantages – some greater than others. Let’s go through the table row by row to really get a feel for how these two trucks measure up to one another. For starters, we looked at horsepower in the first row, in which the Honda Ridgeline kicks things off with a leg up. It offers an extra 10 hp more than the Ford Ranger, which isn’t huge but it certainly an advantage.
On the other hand, as the second row depicts, the Ford Ranger makes up that lack in power with a slight advantage of its own, as it achieves an extra mile per gallon combined across highway and city driving. Once again, not a huge difference, but a leg up, nonetheless.
In the third row, we looked at max payload, which is, unfortunately, one area that the Ranger gets a big leg up on the competition by being able to accommodate an extra 277 pounds in its bed. However, the Ridgeline does make up for that big deficit by offering quite a bit of extra space inside the cabin for you and your passengers to stretch out and get comfortable in. To be more specific, an extra 12.1 cubic feet of space.
If you can overlook the dip in payload and efficiency for the advantages in power and passenger space, then you’ll be pleased to learn about all of the outstanding safety technologies and other features the Ridgeline provides. Be sure to get in touch with us to take one for a spin yourself.
