List of Driver-Assistive Safety Features in Honda Sensing

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System
  • Road Departure Mitigation System
  • Lane Keeping Assist System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Traffic Sign Recognition

What do these features do?

Each of these driver-assistance technologies are effective in helping to reduce the risk or, at the very least, severity of automotive collisions. Each has its own function, utilizing different radars and cameras to analyze your surroundings on the road. What does each one do?

The Collision Mitigation Braking system is designed to apply pressure to the brakes in the event of an appending forward collision, whereas the Road Departure Mitigation System can provide steering or braking assistance when it determines that your vehicle might be leaving the road. The Lane Keeping Assist System works similarly, but rather than only working when it determines you might be leaving the lane lines, you can trigger it and it will help you stay centered in your lane by delivering regular steering assistance.

Adaptive Cruise Control takes “old-fashioned” cruise control up a level by allowing you to set a follow distance in addition to a speed, and it will then slow down when it determines a vehicle in front of you is driving slower. Sometimes, ACC is accompanied by Low-Speed Follow, which enables your vehicle to automatically adjust speed even when the vehicle in front of you slows to a stop. That brings us finally to Traffic Sign Recognition, which utilizes a small camera to notify drivers of different signs it detects on the roadside, such as speed limits.

Hopefully, this give you a better idea of just how safe your new Honda vehicle will be. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give us a call!
